Dont know why but my tank is starting to smell really bad.... like bad enough to start to make my room smell really bad..... nothing has changed i have been cleaning it with 1/4-1/3 water change every week been using a gravel vacuum... still just my three fish.... the only change in anything has been the feeding i started to feed my gourami brine shrimp but that was just yesterday so the problem had started long before that... Is this normal and if it isnt what could it be? If it is totally normal is there anyway to reduce the smell cause its far from an enjoyable thing to have not even 10 feet from where i am trying to sleep at.... Any advise would be great :)

Nevermind think i figured out the problem i was adding some new plants to my tank and the coolie loach was dead under a rock so i guess that was him stinking up the tank :( breaks my heart..... I dont see him during the day so only god knows how long he was there

A tank should smell a little fishy but should not stink. Do a 50% water change. Put fresh carbon in the filter which removes a lot of the smelly chemicals. Change the mechanical portion of the filter. Add some good bacteria. That all may be enough to fix things up, or you may need to repeat that in a few days.

I'm sorry to hear it was your loach that had died. Hopefully that was the only reason the tank smelled.

The smell of the tank has went down to very little to almost none since the fish had been removed... Still have some odor but its nothing bad and with the lid closed almost non existent...
