do rats attack box turtles?

It would be rare but, yes, they could. Rats would be more likely to go after box turtle eggs or hatchlings than adults. The adults can normally close themselves into their shell and avoid any damage. City (Norway) rats are more aggressive than say the native wood rats. I have not heard of any specific events with rats harming turtles.
