green water is algal bloom, you can buy products that make it get filtered better.
has there been an increase of light in the tank ?
Usually when starting a new tank up the water goes green , but your tank is established so mayby plants may help as they take all the goodness out of the water brefore tha algae has a chanc to go mad.
You need a product that conrols algea and it should be redily avaliable at your pet store.
if you dont need the lights on turn them off as this will kill the algea off.

It sounds like an algae bloom. See http://www.fishpondinfo.com/plants/algae.htm for some ideas. I put barley straw in my ponds and aquariums. When my 40 gallon had an algae bloom that didn't go away, I used Accu-Clear which works for a day or two and finally resorted to Algae-Fix (for ponds). It clears the tank for a few weeks. The tank in question has large fish and cucumbers to feed them as well as a good amount of light. I'm replacing it with a 65 gallon this weekend so that should help. The more fish and fish food that is in the tank, the more likely that the suspended algae will grow. The good news is that the suspended algae doesn't harm the fish directly. Now, if it dies, that can lower the oxygen levels so be sure to aerate well. Algae make oxygen during the day but use it at night so aeration is needed all the time. Green water (suspended algae) is actually cultivated on purpose to feed egg-laid fry since they are so tiny. They eat not only the minute algae but the microorganisms like paramecium, euglena, daphnia, etc. that feed on it.
