We have a 2000 gallon fish pond in our back yard. We have been noticing alot of frogs and now, alot of frog eggs. Is there such a thing as too many frogs? Will the frog eggs keep my plants from growing?
Is the pond new? Frogs tend to lay a lot of eggs in new ponds. Once they are established with fish, the frogs won't be as interested because they know that fish eat frog eggs and small tadpoles. You can have too many frogs but it's rare. If there is too much frog spawn, the organics could rise in the pond. When that happens, the ammonia could go up and the oxygen go down. This is more common from over zealous toad spawnings than from frogs because frogs tend to lay fewer eggs. The frog eggs will not effect the plants.
Here is the section on having too much toad spawn which could be relevant in rare cases to frogs:

Speaking of frogs; last year all my frogs left shortly after salting my pond.
Was that a coincidence or do they not like the salt? Will they return?
How much salt did you add? What species of frogs left? Frogs don't like a lot of salt but can tolerate what is normally added to a pond. If you added more than 0.05% salt, then they might leave. Some people say to use 0.1% to treat sick fish but plants and amphibians don't like that much.
I don't remember, Robyn. I added what ever is recommended; something like 1 cup per 100 gallons if my memory servers me.
:D What a great question..I noticed lots of toads or frogs in my new pond when we went up there last week,it was just starting to get dark and all of a sudden..ribbit,croaks,ect,and toads or frogs galore, they were breeding I'm sure,I didn't think to look if they were toads,I didn't know toads swam in the water or bred in it either.. :o
Robyn..thanks so much for your site..I'm learnig so much...I think my goldfish are big enough that they won't take over my pond,at least I hope not..they are noisy little guys... <_<
