Title: I Have A Stinkpot Turtle That Is Laying Eggs
Description: How do I successfully hatch these eggs?

My Stinkpot turtle (Musk Turtle) was around several other turtles last fall, Now she is laying eggs in her 50 gal aquarium. But she only has rocks for basking, no place to bury the eggs. I took the egg and have it under a desk lamp for today till I can go to the pet store for supplies & advise. I really want this egg to hatch, She laid an egg about 2 weeks ago but it was cracked really bad so I got rid of it. This one is perfect. Any advis on how to have it hatch successfully? I would appreciate any advise very much! Thank you!

I have a section on incubating turtle eggs at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/turtles/turbreed.htm#hatch that may help. I've never done it myself. Turtles can lay infertile eggs. If she last mated last fall, the eggs most likely are not currently fertile. You can try anyway to hatch them just in case.

While moving soil/dirt with a bobcat at Mom's a few years ago we found a few turtle eggs and we just moved them into a flower pot with drain holes in the bottom,it rained enough to keep the soil damp, but not to wet...we just moved the same kind of soil their Mama layed them in..in a few weeks,we had baby turtles,it was spring and we didn't do anything with them but bury them under an inch or 2 of dirt and left them outside just like mama turtle did..hope this helps...I'm going to now check out the turtle hatching link...:-)
