Title: We Got Another Chicken!
Description: Chicken

I didn't want more animals but I can't stop my mother! She went and brought home a 4-month-old Delaware chicken today and named her, get this, "Pondet." Huh? Well, the last one we got is "Poulet" which is French for chicken which makes her sound like dinner (I protested that name). My mother thinks it has the word "pool" in it and since we have ponds and pools decided this one should be "Pondet." She is sleeping in a dog cage in the garage right now since the remnants of Hurricane Charley are coming though tonight. The other chickens won't except her right away into the roost so I didn't want her out there getting soaked and tossed around. I suggested naming her "Charley" but my mother's father was "Charlie" so she said she couldn't do that because it would remind her of him (not in a good way).

Wow, more animals huh? Lucky you... or maybe not so lucky! She makes you take care of most of the animals bless your soul.

And re charley, I know all about it. I had family 10 minutes from Tampa but they said the brunt of it went farther south than they tought. My family back in my hometown of Norfolk, Virginia says that they expect 4-5 inches of rain from this tropical storm (it was supposed to go through this evening). Yuck yuck yuck...

It’s cold in Michigan. It was about 72 today, but the other day it only reached 67! Isn't this summer? I need to pack up and move south, I am sick of this cold. We see enough of the cold and snow in the winter, I don’t need it now.

Robyn, good luck with the new animal - and hopefully the bad weather misses you guys.

Yeah, the forecasters messed up again. Our 4-6" or rain and 40 mph wind was 2" of rain and almost no wind. Not that I'm complaining! I lost about an hour doing preparations bringing in the rabbits and new chicken mostly. I'm glad I didn't pull in my mother's 100 potted plants!

Um, I take care of ALL of the animals. My parents will "walk" (toss out mostly) the dog. That's about it! I now have 18 animals not including the 100's of ones in my 4 tanks and 8 ponds (only 2 ponds have fish). She always says, "I don't MAKE you do anything." The thing is, if I don't, no one will. I only started doing all the house cleaning in my teens after I couldn't stand the filth anymore.

"Pondet" is with the other chickens who pecked and jumped her part of the day until she went to the window ledge. Chickens are really nasty!

Well I am glad you guys weren't too rained on! :D

... And re: your mom - I know the feeling. I cleaned most of the house from the time I was 12-13 and then until I moved out at 19. They didn't have a clue how to clean or why you should clean. If it was left alone, they would hire someone to clean up and I thought that was just unacceptable.

Anyway I can keep a pretty clean house now that I am off on my own!
