Title: The New Route

First, I finally read about your dog. He was a cutey, and I'm sorry for your loss. Now to explain the thankyou. My german shepard at age 2 or so developed a skin condition. The first vet said Mange, I said NO...did the dips anyway. It wasn't mange. The next vet said steriods, which did work. But a 95lb. shepard on steriods is not the funnest thing in the house ( along with 7 other animals at the time). We couldn't take it, and neither could he. I keep saying it's a fungus but all I can get is a bumped up verison of omino acids and antibiotics for his open bitten wounds. They said it's food allegeries, changed everything almost to going raw. Now it's down to allegery to fleas. After 12 years of hanging out in a dirt floored kennel, my beagle has also become allergic.....AARGHHH, I doubt it. All 4 cats and both dogs have scabbing, flaking, some hair loss to different degrees. I know it's not fleas and so now I thankyou. You've given me a new way to go ( only because you've gone thru it) and I'll be looking up those meds this weekend. Both dogs have checkup appt.s next month. Man, is that vet going to get an earful. lol What gets me more is when I was picking up the dogs meds refills, 2 dogs were waiting to go in..BOTH looked like mine and the owner was told allergies. This is getting long, and I'm starting to ramble  ...sorry. thanks again.

Schmoo had recurrent skin fungal infections. When he got them, he was really itchy with sore spots. The biggest difference between that and mange (which he did have when we first got him) and bacterial infections was the stench. If you smell the sore areas and gag, it's probably fungus. I was given both a spray and a shampoo for his fungus. I still have them; they're probably expired. If your vet won't give you any, I can mail them to you if you want. I think they're called Malaseeb or something. I'd have to go look.

I should have added more details about his skin fungus but, back then, I didn't put all the details about my animals on my site. I'm home today (taking my neice to a petting zoo) so I just went to find Schmoo's medicines. Both the spray and the shampoo are called "Malaseb" and contain Miconazole nitrate and Chlorhexidine gluconate. Mine are almost empty so they wouldn't do you much good. I keep everything! The spray is for spots, and the shampoo is for all over. The medication treats both for fungal and bacterial infections. It sounds like your dog should try it.
