Robyn has an excellent website on Goldfish. In fact, she has more info than most sites ever could. If you want more than one site, I could go on and on recommending you to goldfish care sites. However, for now I would advise you to check her pages out.
I also have a website and have 4 new sections on goldfish...

I was laughing because you are on Robyn’s site… well, the forum portion anyway. Usually people on her forums are familiar with her main page. Sorry if that was out of place of me.

My goldfish pages at are
http://www.fishpondinfo.com/gfish.htmI also suggest reading these pages:
http://www.fishpondinfo.com/chem.htmhttp://www.fishpondinfo.com/first.htmhttp://www.fishpondinfo.com/fcare.htmhttp://www.fishpondinfo.com/health.htmTo clean your tank, it's easiest to buy a siphon which is just a tube really. Many of us use the Python Clean N'Fill system. Anyway, you fill the tube with water and let one end drain into a bucket or bathtub and the other end you run around the bottom of the tank to suck up wastes. I change 50% of my tanks every week but others change either much less water or less often. Since your tank is a bit overcrowded, I do suggest the 50% weekly or maybe even twice weekly. After the water is removed, lift the end in the tank out to stop. The Python system will refill the tank easily. Otherwise, you have to bail buckets of water back in. Be sure to add dechlorinator if you have city water (most people do but I don't). This is also when you'd add your salt dose (only with water changes).

I’ve never casually added salt (never felt the need, and I have many live plants and fish which do not like salt), so I cannot comment on that.
And regarding the python system, I couldn’t/wouldn’t keep fish without one! Before the python, I never kept tanks over 40 gallons.

I add salt to my tanks for a few reasons. First, I have very soft well water; it's almost distilled! So, it's low in ions. The salt helps with that making it less stressful on the fish. Second, all of my fish have been exposed to tuberculosis. Salt naturally supresses bacteria and funguses so I can only hope it makes some minute difference. I've not found a cure for tuberculosis. It's a slow and awful killer often latent in my tanks but ever present. If you have hard water or fish that don't like salt, you really don't have to add it. I started using salt in all my tanks when working at a fish store where they used it in all tanks. They used what I use which is a tablespoon per 5 gallons in all tanks (more in brackish ones of course). They said that level is safe for even the salt intolerant species like some catfish and loaches but the salt still has the effect of reducing osmotic stress and supressing bacteria and fungus.
I couldn't stand aquarium water changes without my Python system either. But, I still bucket bail to my small ponds so my arms are strong! I did 6 buckets today. I have to walk some quite a ways.
