Title: Home Made Skimmer Box Anyone
BillBrooks - May 9, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
Just wondering if anyone here has made a skimmer box and if so what did they use.
And do you know of any links that show how to make one.
I plan on making one for my new pond I already bought a 65 gallon industrial garbage can plastic, I plan on picking up a skimmer door at a pool supply store. Also building a net box to fit inside below that a filter pad( floor scrubber pad) before my inlet to the pump.
I will post pics after its done.

I didn't do a skimmer box but I did do a filter. The homemade version directions from skippysstuff.com,or google skippy filter. I made 2 last summer, one 50 gal. and one 20 gal. or so and they worked great so far. I was able to get all the parts at Home Depot. You'll might be able to get an idea with it the pics on the site.

I've never had a skimmer. I don't know of a site offhand with plans for one either. Sorry. Maybe someone else will post. Otherwise, we can all learn from your skimmer building experience.

I built what I call the ultimate skimmer for my 4500gal pond. I built a stream going out of it into a 500 gal pond. A heavy screen across the stream catches all the leaves. The orfes use this stream to spawn in every spring and the eggs hatch out in the lower pond were there are no other fish to eat them.

That sounds like a simple plan you must have some kind of screen around your pump so the baby orfes don't get sucked into it.
I still need to pick up the skimmer door and do some moding of the can.
I will show my work in progress.
Dam work takes to much time didn't get anything done on pond set up tonight.
I did get 15 more floor scrubber pads in the mail today so I can cut them up for my skippy bio filter.
