Hi, I am quite new at fish keeping and was suprised to see new beings in my tankl during the night. there were about 15 of them and one was sucking on the glass. they are small and like a pointed end shell and orangy colour. could they be trumpet snails. they have all burrowed in the gravel now. i have a photo but don't know if i can post photos here. if they are trumpet snails, do i need to do anything. will they harm my fish? sorry to appear dim but as i said i am quite new to keeping aquarium fish. thanks to anyone who can help. jenny.

If they are shaped like trumpets, then they are trumpet snails. Trumpet snails spend most of the day in the gravel and come out at night to eat algae and leftover fish food. They don't bother with plants too much. They can be prolific but I don't do anything special with mine to control their population. They won't harm the fish.
