A little bit of smell is normal but if it's extra fishy, then something may be afoot. Have the fish spawned recently? When mine do, there's always a lingering stinky fish-type smell for a few days. Otherwise, smell could indicate toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide or methane coming from stuff rotting in the pond. In that case, the pond would need a cleaning. If the pond looks clean and clear (not much debris, no dead bodies), then doing a partial water change and putting fresh activated carbon in a mesh bag in the filter or moving water will reduce the smell. Smells can come from dead or dying animals, rotting plants, spawning, and other organic processes.
