Hi
I have a red and white pond goldfish in a 20 gal tank.He has been in there for over a year now and I love watching him.In the past week I have noticed that all his red color is slowly disappearing. Now he is all white. He is still very healthy (I think ) and eatting well. What can be wrong with him?Does he need to go into the pond?
Please help
Thanks swampview

Goldfish will change colors throughout their lives. Sometimes the color changes are surprising. If you send me a photo or post one, I can tell you if I think the color looks normal or something could be wrong. It sounds like a normal color change from what you've said.

I'm sure he'd like to go into the pond (it's more fun!) but that has nothing to do with the color.

Swampview,

That is happening to my outdoor goldfish too. Orange fantail, same color change (turning white!). She is very active and healthy looking!

Same thing is happening with Spot ( my icon pic )...he's losing his spots. I've done a head count, still have 6 but can't tell whether I'm looking at Spot or Runt now. :(

This also happened to my comet goldfish in my 75 gal tank. He was all orange when I won him from the fair 2 yrs ago and then one day just started getting white patches on him. He is very happy and healthy guess its just something they do as the age. Kinda like humans getting gray hair or something, I guess ;)
