Hi I was wondering if anyone had tried to use a UV light that is for inside the house? I bought one a few years ago because the trailer I was living in had mold and was giving me alergies...
I just took it ouside and set it facing towards the water as it flows down the water fall...will this work the same as if I go buy one? I would think it would..of course I will have to bring it in at night or when it's supposed to rain..but so far it is staying dry and the light it shinning into a pool I made at the bottom of the waterfall...it is a UV-C bulb..I think I paid about $150 for it anyway I'm going to try it unless someone here thinks I shouldn't...thanks..I hope and pray my water clears up.. :P

I don't know how well it will work. In a pond UV sterilizer, the water is run by the lamp which is in an enclosed casing so that the light is concentrated on the water. I think if you have it open outside, most of the light will just be dissipated. Also, I would worry if it rains (and you're not there). If a hot bulb gets wet, it shatters. I'm also not sure if the intensity or type of UV lamp is the same as those sold for ponds. If the UV is strong, than any plant or small animal exposed to it runs the risk of genetic mutations or even death. Frogs might hop by for example. Now, if you could find a way to enclose the lamp, protect it from the weather and animals, and concentrate it on the water, it might be more worthwhile.
