Does anyone know what I can do to stop Pete from calling so much. Its starting to drive me crazy. (At least it will be a short drive. lol) He calls about every ten min. and if your talking outside you have to wait till he stops so the other person can hear you. I have also noticed the wild birds stoped coming to the feeders. I believe they think it is a preditor and stay away.
So far all I can think of is give him away.

Male birds of some species make a lot of noise! I have two roosters who crow probably 20 times an hour and sometimes at night. I've gotten used to them but know a peacock is a lot louder! Can you put up something to lessen the noise like a sound barrier or something? You can't make him stop calling aside from surgery which would be cruel. Did you look into getting a female? I don't think it will make him stop calling but maybe he'd call less. I guess now you see why so many people dump such gorgeous birds into the wild to fend for themselves. It's not his fault; he's just being a peacock.

i asked our neighbor who has them and he said the only way to make him call less is a mate or another friend of some sort she suggested if you couldnt afford a female then get a couple gunieas or chickens she said he is more then likely lonely and trying to find someone to talk to and mate with and is hoping to call someone to him.she even suggested trying to find a tape of another peacock or record him and play it quietly everyonce in a while to make him think hes talking to someone.hope this helps!! h

Guinea hen males make a lot of loud noises too! Wayne could try a few chicken hens but if the peacock attacks them or otherwise doesn't improve his behavior, then Wayne's stuck with chicken pets too. I love my chickens but they're not exactly well behaved. Turkey hens might be better since they're larger. The peacock would probably try to mount them and beat them up which wouldn't make them happy (but would make him happy).

i dont think they would have to be in the same pen if he wanted to go that route then he could make a small pen next time to pete justso he has some one to talk to

Thanks for the input guys. I will tell you what I did so far. I saw my fake heron has been off duty in the shed for about 4 weeks, so I tied a fishing line around his neck (the herons) and hung it up just outside Petes cage. And what do you know , he only calls about twice a day now. He looks at it with his tail in full spread. So right now we are both happy.
I think I will try to find a peahen for him and hope for the best.
Thanks again
Wayne

Ya Ya I know. Petes standards in women has reached a new low.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
He is pretty, not smart.
