Hi again!

Now I have a question about pond shade.
I posted that I used cardboard in a "pinch" to shade my pond but that is only if I am home to keep an eye on it to make sure there are no problems and it says put. My question is what other's might do for shade for long term? We are planning on taking some time off and will be gone for a few weeks. I will need to provide safe shade for my pond in my absence. I did read that wood latice could be used any thoughts on this??

Are you able to get a sheet of 3/8" x 4'x8' spruce plywood? It is light in weight and ridged enough to span across a 100gal pond, but don't seal it tight, so air can still move freely over the water.

Some people build permanent arbors with shade cloth, others use beach umbrellas, and so on. My ponds get enough shade from trees and plants that I haven't used anything myself.

We did have an off-sided picnic umbrella making shade for about half our pond ( 10x6 ft), but in May the wind took it and we can find a replacement part. Which bites cause it worked beautifully and meshed right in with the landscaping. Now we're stuck with serious sun, so in went a UV lite for the algae and I'm in the process of building a corner PVC trellis just to break things up. ( all projects have been on hold because of BIG wedding this coming weekend).

I don't have access to the spruce plywood that you suggested but I am sure that I can come up with something. I guess I am lucky that my pond is small. Thanks for the suggestion it will give me something to think about.

Sadiemay, will you post a picture of your trellis when you are done? I would really like to see it :)
