Yesterday I found yellow eggs? on a short plant in my mulched garden. They almost look like yellow foam insulation deposited on most of the plant, attatched to the stem and leaves. I started to pick at it, thinking the dog may have thrown up on one of my flowers, but then it occured to me that they might be eggs. They were clumped together so much that they looked like insulation like I said earlier. The masses are yellow in color and spongy to the touch of a stick. I saw a toad in the flower bed the day before and wondered if they could be toad eggs. I know almost nothing about this sort of thing, and have NEVER posted on a forum! But, my curiosity now has the best of me, and I would love to know what has joined my garden! Marybeth
How big is the foam mass? I am guessing that it is either fungus or perhaps some insect's protective mass (either for adults to hide or for eggs). There is a mold called "dog vomit fungus" that often grows on mulch and such but not normally on live plants. Oh, but you said your "mulched" garden. Did you just mulch it? If so, then it's fungus from the mulch that must have gone up the short plant.
Toads lay eggs in the water. Their eggs are long strings that look like black pearls once the babies develop. Toads won't lay eggs on plants on land.
