AS I POSTED BEFORE I BOUGHT THAT NEW FILTER AND PUMP. WITH IN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER DOING A HALF WATER CHANGE, I COULD SEE TO THE BOTTOM. IT LOOKED BEAUTIFUL. I LIVE IN NJ AND IT WAS COOL THAT WEEK. I WARMED UP AND THE POND GOT CLOUDY AGAIN . AND ITS BEEN CLOUDY EVER SINCE,EVEN AFTER ADDITIONAL WATER CHANGES.ONCE THE FISH GO BELOW THE WATER 4" I CAN'T EVEN SEE THEM.MY YARD IS IN THE SUN BUT I HAVE QUITE A BIT OF SURFACE PLANTS. WOULD YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW WHAT'S CAUSING THE WATER TO BE GREEN AND CLOUDY? DO YOU HAVE IDEAS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE THIS PUMP AND FILTER IS ALOT BIGGER THAN NEEDED AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE DOING A BETTER JOB THAN THIS.

THANKS!!

It's a combination of the things that algae love - sun, heat, and nutrients. How old is your pond? It's normal for new ponds to have periods of suspended algae but if this is an older pond, it should be controlable. If your pump and filter is really strong enough for the pond, then you need to work on other factors. How big is the pond? How deep is it (shallow ponds get more algae)? How many fish and what sizes? What size pump? How much of the surface is covered with plants. Right now, I would say 90% of my big pond's surface is covered mostly due to water lettuce. There is just one opening that stays open from an air stone. Can you shade some of the pond with tarps (elevated off the surface) or beach umbrellas? Do you add good bacteria and barley straw? Can you post a photo of the pond? That might give me some additional ideas. Is the water only cloudy from suspended algae, or do you think there is something else in the water? I hope it clears up!

My algae page is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/plants/algae2.htm for those that haven't been there.

Monster, what kind of pump/filter system again? Seems to me your pump and filter sit on the bottom of the pond, is that right? Or do you have a skimmer/bio fall system? Seems you bought a new filter, but I'm not familiar with in pond filters/pumps. Other than bought one once for a water feature. Turned out to be more work keeping the filter screen clean than it was worth, so I took it out.

Just went throught the same issue. I am also in NJ and have a newer pond. I have a similar setup using a skimmer with bio-falls. I added a double dose (double recommended) of Microbe Lift PL and also used Tetra Barley Peat extract. Within 3 days the suspended algae is gone and the pond is crystal clear. Now....if it is going to stay clear?!! Hope so!!! I'm adding 1 oz of Microbe Lift PL every other day to really seed the filter and pond. So far working great.

Monster, I'd follow krazyvan advice. Keep up with adding barley and beneficial bacteria. I think you're just seeing a bloom with all the new water you added.

I've had good luck with Microbe-Lift/PL, and concentrated liquid form of barley.
