Being new to Western Painted Turtles the two I own have much different characteristics. I have a male and female in my 2400 gallon pond. One of the turtles continues life with 90% of its time basting on flat rocks or the floating logs. The other spends very little time sun basting. During feeding the one always swimming eats plentiful while the one basting does not even bother going into the water to eat. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
It's 100 degrees F here today so a turtle might indeed baste but I think you mean basking on the rocks. It sounds like your turtles just have different personalities. Some might be concerned if a turtle basks too much and others if they bask too little. You've got one of each! As long as they are active and eating as some point, I wouldn't worry too much.
Good morning America !
We like your website. Turtles basking in hot sunshine sounds lovely.
Here in the North of England it is about 65 degrees and hasn't stopped raining all summer.
( Manchester City beat Derby 1-0 last night though which makes up for the rubbish weather ... especially as Man United haven't won a game yet ... yey!)
