I have an Eastern Painted and she is about 8 inches long. My sister just stopped by the house with one that is about 4 inches long. I put the little one in with our Miss Randolph and she went after the newcomer. I realize that she is probably checking him/her out, but she definately snapped at the newbies head! Yowch! I am keeping a very close eye on them, but do not want to wake up tomorrow and find just a shell! Thanks in advance for any help.
Turtles can pick on each other. If they are too far apart in size, the smaller one might get hurt. You may have to keep them apart until that little one gets larger. I doubt the bigger one would try to eat the other but it certainly might bite the younger one. Perhaps over time, they will get along. Provide as much room and hiding places as you can.
Thanks Robyn,
They actually do seem to be "getting along" now. I am still keeping a close eye on them though. The little one seems to like swimming directly below Miss Randolph...perhaps hiding from her or maybe she seems like a mommy to him? I will post updates later.
Is either of your turtles a male?
How big is your aquarium?
Some turtles can be territorial, especially if you have a small enclosure. If one is a male, he may tend to harass the other. Make sure you have plenty of room, and places to hide. Keep a close watch on them, if the aggression continues, you may need to seperate.
