Robyn or anyone how do you sink your cucumber??? my tank is deep more then long so to get to the bottom I am almost pit deep in water. The cucumber floats so I finally found an all rubber spatula a hair tie with no metal on and tied the cucumber on it. the whole thing wanted to float (of course). So I wedged it under the aerator pick up truck that is on the bottom so it suspended it. There has to be an easier way!

I have two cucumber holders. They are full of gravel and sink. The cucumber sticks onto them. Unfortunately, they stopped selling those years ago. I suggest finding a rock or driftwood with a hole in it. Then, get some lead plant weights that are long. Stab the cucumber with the weights and wrap the weights into the hole in a rock or driftwood. You can also buy plastic clips attached to suction cups. Clip on the cucumber and stick the suction cup to the glass. The suction cups only last a few months before they refuse to stay on though.

My pleco is now in a 65 gallon tank. I now use a grabber to bring the cucumber holder up each morning to fill it and then lower it back down. Otherwise, I'd get my arm pit wet; it's that deep.

There are many ways to secure the cucumber. I hope you find one that works! My pleco knocks the cucumber off the holder anyway so it's not on there by morning (almost never anyway). He will try to eat it when it's floating around too. Change the cucumber daily to keep the water clean.

All that trouble and he (she) didnt even eat it! does it take awhile for them to venture to it? hmmmm its just about 3inch just a baby I guess. I drop alfa waffers but the gold fish attack them even in the dark until they are gone so I am sure he is not getting any. what to do?

My goldfish don't bother too much with the sinking algae wafers which I add at 10 pm each night. They will nibble on the cucumber. My pleco is 15" long. The smaller ones won't eat very much and aren't into vegetables as much as the big ones. I suggest putting in a small amount of cucumber maybe only once or twice a week for just a day because he's not going to eat much of it now. The goldfish might eat some. Did you split and de-seed the cucumber so the flesh is available to the fish?

Oh yes split it down and deseeded. hmm I will keep trying though. Thanks again for your help

My pleco is bent on eating my plant, and he won't eat anything else! It drives me nuts!

well I don't use cucumbers but I use zookieny and it sinks after a hour or two in my tank.

My pleco prefers cucumber to zucchini. The zucchini also makes a mess as it falls apart in water.

Plecos love to eat plants which is why I don't have any live plants with my 14" common pleco.
