Well I hate say it but I had to resort to chemicals I held off as long as I could. I did an amo lock tab in the pond and in the aquarium all levels are "0" it did kick into nitrites in the aquarium but it is moving the cycle along finally!!!!!! with smal traces of nitrates. The pond I used the tabs and nitraband I have "0" in ammonia and the nirates finally showed but again moving the cycle along and the nitrates dropped to 20 ppl or m whatever. I added some salt for both and all fish are very happy eating comming up swimming back to themselves again. thank god maybe tonight I wont have to have ANOTHER dream about the fish and saving them
Also I was at my 1/3 acre pond feeding and I had to have seen 200 fish or more today along with BOTH my grass carp for the first time since I put them in 2 months ago I put them in when they were 10 - 12 inches and they were atlease a foot 1/2 too 2 feet long just huge (well to me). Still have yet to see my Koi but one of my husbands employees said they saw a large "gold fish" last week along with the grass carp so I assume that was one of the Koi but I have yet to see them.
All in all not a bad fish day. :D :D :D
How are you doing to day frantic KK?
Well that is just super to hear that your levels are good! Finally....eh? Nice!
That is also cool that you got to see your grass carp and some other fishies!
I am sure your Koi are in there somewhere too. They really like to hide out and play in the mucky clay bottom. Well I have been out fishing today but no luck seeing the two remaining bigger goldfish in the clay pond. I even went out there last night in the dark with a flood light hoping to poach them, lol. But no luck. We are having a few snow flakes right now so my days of being able to get them are numbered! I was up in the night making sure my filters didn't freeze and cause a flood! I need to turn off the pump but am waiting for my new aerator to arrive! My Mom is coming up on Monday and she is bringing 3 new koi for me so I am excited about that. There is a plain orange one, a black and white one with a red dot on his head (my Mom calls him Helmet! LOL) and this funky metallic looking pale orange and grey one. Not really beauties but with the Koi ban, one has to get what they can get!
I have my butterfly koi who is white with a small orange spot on his head his name is butter butt (dont ask) and a white koi w/blk spots names 007 :ph43r: beacause when I got him at AA (aquarium adventure) he hid behing a small small plant like we couldnt see him LOL. I have a metalic one named PikaPika (which means glitter in Japanese) he looks like aluminum foil with an orange spot on his head. Then Sid the comet (from ice age the movie) and Curley the subumkin (we had larry and Moe but they are no longer with us.) Pika is my largest 12 in then Curley 8 in (w/o tail) and butter butt is the smallest. I wouldnt know a show koi if it was laying my lap.
But I love my guys just the same. And we ALL know that you do in your ninja suit at night trying to find your fish. You do have the best stories LOL.
We shouldn't have started the name thing! Here goes:
Naval, Zephyr, Caveman, ElTigre, Helmut, Spike, Pumpkin The Koi's
Happy Harry, Pikme, Houdini, Sharkey, Dougie Poo, Herb and Sylvia Shubunkin,
Walter, Suzie, Mr. Bill, Banana Man, Ugly Ivan, Sun, Reno, Mango, 50 Cents,
The Walters 1,2and3, Beacon, and a bunch of babies with no names yet cause they are all black! I don't know why people think it is weird that we name our fish! Jeez, we name our kids don't we? No Ninja operations tonight...Too darn cold out there :(
Since we are playing the name game here's mine.
Harley- he is gold with black stripe, fins and tail. He is the fastest of the bunch.
Nugget- he is well, gold and the biggest. He is slow, slow, slow and is a clutz.
The other hasn't been named. He looks like Nugget but is a little smarter.
Dale- he died not to long after I put him in but he was gold too.
:)
Chris, I'm glad things have improved! We've all resorted to chemicals now and again.
