I live in Franklin county,Va and I found this baby turtle in my yard. it still had its egg tooth on it when i found it but its mother was nowhere to be found there were not any more babys around either. It is very curious but it randomly will just stop and go into its shell.

If you can post a photo, I can tell you more. Turtle mothers lay their eggs and then leave. They play no role in rearing the babies. There may only be one baby if he has traveled some distance, the others have died or not hatched yet. What does he look like?
