Title: My New Fish
Description: expensive trip!!!

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 03:58 AM (GMT)
Hey! I picked up my 3 new Koi this weekend! And.......it only cost me $800.00......in speeding tickets! I tried the excuse that I was rushing my Koi home cause they didn't like the 14 hour drive! Ya....don't bother trying that excuse in the future...It DOESN'T work!! Well they are in the aquarium for the winter and looking happy! I will post a picture of them tomorrow.....ya know just in case anyone wants to see what really expensive Koi look like, LOL LOL LOL

I am sorry to hear that there are heartless, non-koi loving officers on the road :( Looking forward to seeing a photo of your $pecial fish :)

hmmm, if there is a Koi ban there, maybe it could have been worse than a ticket. Is there the possibility the officer could have conviscated the fish for breaking the ban?

So maybe he was being nice and letting you off easy? (LOL, yes, the cuo is always half full in my world!)

Well, here all the pictures of my new fishy's. It was kind of hard to get a picture as they are really skittish this morning, but who can blame them after 14 hours sloshing in a small container! Like I said before, they are not beautiful, but one can't be choosy when you can't buy them here anymore :(

Now Derrick! Really!!! Sticking up for the RCMP, tisk, tisk.......OR........are you deep under cover as a drummer and fish lover?? Now no one would figure that one out :P

KK, them are beauties :) A little on the spendy side though ;)

How big are these guys?

Raetak - October 8, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
OHHHHHHH!!! They are soooooooooooooooooo cute!!! I think they are awsome looking not uncolorful!

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
Oh Thank you, blushes the proud new Mom, LOL LOL  They are about 3" long, the plain orange one is a little bit bigger. I am glad I can keep them in the house until the Spring.

tlc - October 8, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
KK, which one is Helmet? The spotted one?
That gold one looks like my goldfish but your koi is quite a bit bigger

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)
The one with the red spot on his eye is Helmet. Ya, too bad Pumpkin is so plain and orange, he is rather goldfish looking but by the looks of him I am predicting he is going to grow big. My other orange one is 5.5 pounds!!!!

Robyn - October 8, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
I think the koi are beautiful. The orange one does look more like a goldfish than any koi I have seen. He must know about the ban so he's in disguise! I assume he has barbels. He was hiding them in the photo so as not be found out. I doubt most police officers know about the koi ban there.

tlc - October 8, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
Are barbels those little whiskers? Are they kinda like what a catfish has?
I didn't see the whiskers on Helmet..

Robyn - October 8, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Yes, the barbels are those whiskers that hang below the mouth. I don't see them in the photo of Helmet either but I think they're just back and against the side. Look close and see if they're there. Helmet is definitely a koi based on appearance.

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
WELL!!!!!!!!! Pumpkin is digusted at the fact that someone thought he was a goldfish and I had to talk him out of jumping out of the tank and ending it all! Helmet says she is lady like and too big of whiskers are not appropriate!!!!
Ha Ha just kidding...........here is a photo of the whiskers!

Well, that settles the great whisker inquisition.

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
Ha Ha, that made me laugh out loud! My fish are just glad I quit snapping the flash in their eyes I am sure!

tlc - October 8, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
I see you have added a Avatar pic. Very nice B)

KoiKrazy - October 8, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
LOL, Yes I did! I am so computer illiterate that I like to try and see if I can do different things!

christina2lehner - October 9, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
congrats MOMMY! luv the new babies you must proud. You are like the Koi smuggler :ph43r: you are pretty fearless KK maybe next time put a secret compartment in the trunk of your car all set up with filters that was the mounties will be none the wiser. But can you see that one hitting the news LOL "CRAZY KOI LADY CAUGHT SMUGGLING 3 IN KOI IN HOPE TO RAISE THEM IN HER POND AND MAYBE EVEN TAKE LARGE PICTURES AND POST THEM ON THE INTERNET FOR ALL TO SEE HER CONQEST" be careful there could be an undercover koi cop posing as a fish lover on here you never know. LOL LOL LOL

You come visit me we will get you a whole school of Koi to bring home. Can you get them mailed in?

They are very nice and you get to enjoy them all winter maybe that will take your mind off the pond for a minute. (or a second).

Chris

KoiKrazy - October 9, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
Ha Ha that is funny! Yes, I am going to spend the winter spoiling these guys! Might be a good excuse to get another tank! Or.....better yet, build an indoor pond :D But then of course I would have to get a new husband cause mine would leave me

Route3drummer - October 9, 2007 10:23 AM (GMT)
Darn, my cover is blown...and just when I was so close to nabbing the ring leader of the dreaded Koi smuggling ring! :D

How old do Koi typically get before they show barbels/whiskers?

Nice KK! I like the way you posted actual pictures versus a link. I can't get to photo bucket from here, to see your latest pics, bummer!

Robyn - October 10, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
Koi have the barbels from birth but they're really hard to see when they are small. Even adults can hold the barbels back so they're not very obvious. Once koi fry look like actual fish (an inch or more long), you should be able to make out the barbels.
