Description: winter time

I am trying to find out if a fantail goldfish can stay in an outdoor pond over the winter. We obtained it from my sister and added it to our golfish in the pond, but we need to know if it needs to come inside this winter or if it can stay outside. We would appreciate any help. Thanks Dan

We have a red/white fantail named Potbelly. Just not sure if she's considered a comet or goldfish. This will be her 2nd winter outside in the pond. The woman at the nursery said they are more fragile and slower, needless to say...predators. She's also a momma. We now have an orange/white 'Chunky Monkey' and a black 'Shadow 1'. No mutiple tail fins as far as I can see but they definitely have her square body.

As Sadie May says, they are a more fragile and more likely to be eaten by predators. Fantails can survive down to freezing like all goldfish but they are a little more apt to die over winter from the cold and/or poor gas exchange. I used to have some in my pond. They lived a few years, but eventually, they were taken by predators or illness. My current three fantails live inside.
