Title: Anacharis

I've bought some plants and have had them in my pond for about 2 weeks. I have them 'free floating' - but kinda corralled into a shoallow area of the pond with hopes that my g/fish will spawn some more. It might be my imagination, but it looks like the plants are thinning out some. Can anyone tell me how this plant grows, how fast it grows, and if the fish eat it? Also - does anyone know where I can buy it in bulk?

What kind of fish do you have in your pond?
Goldfish are notorious for eating plants, which may be the reason your Anacharis is thinning out. This type of plant is typically fast growing, so it may be able to sustain itself. You can probably buy a lot at a local pet store, but it is available on the internet as well. Look around a bit, you may be able to find a good price.

Goldfish cannot resist eating anacharis. Mine strip any I add so my pond only has a few scrapes here and there. It may be thining from the fish eating it. It may also thin because it was newly added. Plants go through a transition when they get a new home where they may initially die back a little before regrowing. Ancharis grows along its stalk and put out side shoots as well. A piece can grow 10 ft long if nothing stops it or eats it. Along the plant, it will send out roots and can feed right from the water which means it doesn't have to be potted (although that is good for restraining it) or can be potted in pea gravel alone.

The cheapest price I've seen for anacharis nowadays is about $1.25 per bunch (I know, not that great). Try aqua-mart.com or waterplants.com I think it is.
