OMG 3 mo ago I put in a pleco into my outside pond and NEVER seen him since infact when I was having real bad water i drained the pond near empty and still couldnt find him i actually thought he died and he was the cause of the bad water. Kinda wrote him off that he may have jumped and met his fait to the animals in the woods.
Today came home for lunch (which I NEVER DO) and went to check on the fish and scoop some leaves I new I got a frog in the net (I always do) well well well there was a fish tail sticking out. Black fish tail (i dont have any black fish (so I thought) I droped the net cuz yes it made me jump and it swam away it was the pleco. Caught him again and he was brought to the aquarium he is HUGE he was tiny tiny when I put him in and he is a good 8 inches and PRETTY.
Of course I am in my suit running around with a fish and I know I looked like and idiot but didnt care. The pond has been about 50 for a week prior to the last couple days but he survived. He now is inside hopefully he will thrive and not get sick from the change but still a kick'n tonight. I am so happy.
I reminded me of the poster on here that had the video on utube that was so funny it was the same reaction minus the asian mother in law at the end LOL.

That's awesome Christina; and that he survived at 50 F. And that you were actually able to catch him. I imagine he was somewhat slow from the cold.
Very cool story.

He is doing fine he evicted the small pleco in the aquarium out of his cave and took it over poor mick he is stuck to the glass like "DEFEATED" the big one has squeeezed into the cave. I guess a shoppin trip to the fish store to get a new home for mick poor guy.

LOL, ya the things we will do for even the ugliest of fish!! I have inherited my Mom's pleco now too until she gets moved into their new house up here and her tank set up. She has informed me that PP2 doesn't clean algae off the walls, he just likes to eat his algae wafer and that is it. He came with his own special "house" too but I was worried the Ryukin would get stuck in it so I went to the store and bought the same "house" only bigger, Ha Ha, he doesn't like it too much...........yet!!!!

When you have a pond, there are always surprises! I'm glad it was a good one. Common plecos are pretty strong fish. My 13-year-old 15" Plecy has outlived many a fish and a few tank die offs. His "house" now is two Zilla turtle basking platforms. He never used the clay pots and black plumbing tubing I had offered him in the past. I finally found a hiding place he liked. He's in there all day.
Here is a photo of Plecy inside them from UNDER the old 40 gallon tank (it's a long story you can read on my site how that came to be when my new tank cracked).

I'm glad your pleco ended up safe and sound. I wasn't so lucky, I never found mine. :( I read after I put him in the pond that plecos wouldn't survive our winters. I tried to find him up until the ice covered the pond but with no success. Glad he's doing good. :D
