I love that picture, and now I can't find it. I wish it were me!

You must be talking about KK. I saw those pics too! They must be here someplace. I will go have a look.

Maybe they are no longer on the web site where she put them.
Some people blow up when they see people feeding or, worse, touching deer. Even my brother yells at my mother not to feed them because his daughter got a deer tick. Yet, I rarely see any ticks on people or animals around here anymore. I haven't pulled one off myself in a decade. When we were kids, I was pulling the larger dog ticks off daily. I don't see ticks on the deer. That's good. I've never touched the wild deer (just one neighbor's tame baby buck years ago) but knew I could if I wanted to. This morning, when dumping extra fruits and vegetables, this one yearling doe who is always following me was close enough that, for the first time in my life, I did reach out and touched her right above the nose. The world didn't end. I just broke my own rule. Don't touch wild deer.

Hey! That was me! I can put them on again for you. We have a lot of wild deer around here and last year I tamed quite a few of them to eat out of my hand. I had a mother bring her two fawns after she got used to me and now the fawns are grown and they still come. They all have names and 2 of them come when I call them. I have 5 videos on YouTube under Feeding Baby Deer 1,2,3,4,and5 if you ever go on there?? I will put some pictures on here for you if it is ok with Robyn??
I never worry about the deer and ticks or anything. I am always around them. I feed them baby carrots and apples. They are like my pets and I love them. Sometimes we have about 30 in our yard at once and I will go out and sit on the ground in the middle of them and talk to them. I am very attached to the twin fawns from last year. If you have time check out the YouTube videos, they are pretty neat

Cute pics but I go by the statement 'leave wildwife alone'. This isn't to you personally Koi, it looks like that group knows there's a SAFE place and a SAFE person to go to for treats. I just believe it's better to have all people stay away than have innocent wild life walk into the hands of mean idiots or the bored ones. 'I'll feed them until they depend on me and now I'm bored so go away and starve'. I have in the past, where the news alerts us about foraging shortages, dropped seed. Though it might have my scent I don't drop in a specific area, I'd scatter in my yard, the neighbors..on the street sides, woods. I'll give the local wildlife water and a 'nuetral zone' but we keep our distance.

Well, I think it's great. I wish I lived in an area like KK. As long as they don't take a wild bear and put him on a chair on a talk show, I think what she is doing is fine!
KK that's for puuting them back up. I went to your website yesterday to look for them.
I see that you live in Canada which is probably not as environmentaly destroyed as the US.

I don't believe in messing with Mother Nature or anything. These deer were born on our property and they live in our small valley. We only have about 30 houses in our whole area and everyone knows not to mess with the deer down here. They don't depend on us for their food. I only feed them carrots and apples and just in treat sizes in the winter months. Last winter was very long and hard and COLD. The deer come on our deck and look in the windows, lol so I HAVE to do it. I only hand feed my little group and am not looking to tame more. I know it is wrong but I am an animal lover and can't help it. I have some great pictures so I will post them on my little web site if anyone is interested in looking at them. They are all taken in my yard.

KK, I don't think you are hurting anything. It's not like you have a steady supply of hay and goodies that you are feeding year round. Deer are pretty darn smart and will do what it takes to survive.
I like how you made those pics nice and big ;) ;) You can really see the details.
Can't wait to see what you post on your site.
Thanks for sharing :)

Like I said, you're a SAFE person in a SAFE place and those deer are lucky. I frequently email chat with a woman from Calif. in the same situation. Her home abuts a national reserve and the pics of her yard LOOK like the reserve. lol But there too, it's not heavily populated and it's also protected by the Feds. I'll have to check out your other pics, you've got some really good photos.

Thanks! It is really a little different here where I live in Northern British Columbia Canada. I guess you could compare it to more like your Alaska than anything??
I certainly don't feed any wild animals outside of my yard. I have never fed a wild animal before and when we moved here a couple of years ago I was so excited to see all the wildlife

We too try to resist feeding the deer but, right now, due to the drought, there's nothing to eat. When I go out to feed the chickens and rabbits, the deer follow me all around and have that pleading look in their eyes so I've been giving in lately and giving them some corn. The amount one deer gets is hardly enough to ruin their diet. They seem so happy when they get some. There is a thin line between wild and tame. It's not an absolute thing. One might say that the difference is that a wild animal is unpredictable but I would argue that domesticated animals are also unpredictable, and there is no animal more unpredictable and potentially dangerous than a human. I am pretty good at predicting the responses of our local wildlife sometimes a lot more than my human family!

You said that perfectly, Robyn!

OMG Luv them luv them luv them
I live way out in the woods and I have the same group here every year they dont come with in 30 feet of me. I will do whatever I have to do to keep them in MY woods because if they go 1000 yards north of me my neighbor has a 30 foot deer stand and plenty of loaded guns I totally freak out when the deer run towards his property to the point I call him to let them know that my gang is headed his way please dont shoot them and he doesnt but every time I hear that gun go off man it makes me sad. We are getting into deer hunting season now and man it makes me sad.
I know we should live off the land and as long as you use the animal for food I dont say to much I personally dont eat deer, but to kill JUST for sport well I have to say I dont care for that. We have so many deer around here the state opened up hunting season early to try to thin the herd (so sad).
KK go on with your bad self LOL. I so want to come visit your place. :D
Chris
