Does anyone have a suggestion as to a good place to order a bushy nose pleco? My LFS don't seem to have them and I'm not sure I would trust them anyway (the one place I asked about them I was shown an Oto). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
A good place to get fish is
http://www.liveaquaria.com to be more specific her is the pleco page
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=837 just click on bushy nose pleco.
Thank you! I will take a look. However, after reading several other topics on this site, I now need more info. Has anyway had luck keeping a bristlenose with goldfish? I was under the impression that they were very peaceful and wouldn't suck on the goldies, but it sounds like they might. Any thoughts?
It was a bit strange seeing your "name" as "Fishy" because I use that name in a lot of forums and lists. My boss calls me that.
If your local aquarium store doesn't have bristlenose plecos, they can usually order them for you (if it's a good store).
Most plecos are capable of sucking on goldfish. I think the bristlenose plecos are a lot less likely to do that. Since they only grow to 2 or 3 inches long most of the time, I would be more worried about large goldfish bothering or hurting the bristlenose pleco. They also like warmer water (at least 70 degrees F) while the common plecos can take it cooler. Goldfish tend to nip at most animals at some point, and most animals at some point like to bother them too. I prefer to keep goldfish only with goldfish but I have my three small fantail boys with my 16" pleco who is too big to suck on their little bodies. If the problem is algae control, I suggest manual removal, control of light and nutrients, and, if you must have an animal, try trapdoor snails. Goldfish sometimes pick on them too but they at least have a shell for defense!
