Jrn, first you need to get a free sign-in account at Photobucket.com , it'll take the pics out of your puter. When the site saves the pic, it'll save it in 3 or 4 different ways. click on IMG......then come here. :D When you open a text block to type you'll notice the IMG at the top of the tool bars. Click on that and then right click the mouse to paste the link ...click ok, it should show up. I think. It takes me a few times to get it right ( I love that EDIT button. lol ) Hope you heal fast. :D

Ya, JRN I have a question for you.
How do those pondless waterfalls work?
That should keep you busy for a while explaining that one. ;)

Hope you have a speedy recovery from your knee surgery. I don't have any pond questions for you though.

well TLc that is not a difficult thing to answer.
Dig a pit large enough to handle the sixe waterfall you want.
Then line it, add pump vault, fill with 1"-3" river rock.
Then build your waterfall with the first layer of rock either on or overlapping the filled pit. As you build your waterfall up use the the dirt from the hole to backfill behind the waterfall. Once you reach the height you want locate your waterfall box, and attach the liner. Hook the pump up, fill it up and plug it in.

Jrn, you mentioned the Allied tank de-icer...and that's what I got. Here's a stupid question...Is it actually supposed to float?? I went out and bought the guard for it, put it on. Put it in the pond ( smart...didn't plug it in :D )...and it sank!!! Right now I have a galvanized pipe wedged thru the side wall of the pond holding it at the right height with the cord going thru the pipe. Told hubby ( tho it's supposed to be thermostat controlled ) I'm only going to plug it in when we need it. Now I'm kind of afraid of it. :( It works, had it out of the water and it started cooking. Is it defective?

I think it's supposed to sink but I've never had that one.

I better be more specific. It's an Allied Floating Tank De-icer. model 7621. Didn't even think of that before...duh.

Sadiemay, I think the word "floating" in the title says it all.
I've made plenty dumb assumptions in my life, but I'd say the heater is supposed to float. I'd call where you ordered/purchased it and see what they say.

Sadie, does it float without the guard on it? Here I am reading all this Allied stuff and I didn't know that is what I bought for a spare in case my good ones fails, lol.
I just had to run downstairs and look and sure enought thats it but I haven't taken it out of the box and was only going to use it if my other one wasn't enough. Does yours have styrofoam under the red part??? I might have to fill up the tub and see if mine floats before I have an emergency and my thermo pond doesn't cut it :(
SadieMay - November 20, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
I don't see any outward styrofoam, and the bottom half is black. And it 'kinda moves'. You're gonna have to take it out of the box. :D  Is yours 'buckle squishy'...new words. lol It's not a smooth squishy, but the bottom moves in the top red part if you puch hard enough. Can you drop it in your sink to see if it actually floats? It was a used freebie.

Yes it is suppose to float, even with the guard on it. I dont sell them anymore but what i had people do is buy a cheap outdoor timer. Let it run during the night for about 10hrs or so, and it would be off during the day. I dont trust the thermostat in any of the heaters because they come on before ice and then dont go back off until water warms back up. With the newer low wattage ones if wouldnt matter because your only talking about 100 to 300 watts compared to 1000 -1500 watts.
If it doesnt float then the only thing you can do is tie it to something in order to stay afloat or buy a new one. Yes when out of water those exposed elements will smoke when they get hot, do not let it touch your liner.

Hi Sadie! Well I took mine out of the box and ya it is the same as yours with the black bottom. I gave it the ol' float test and it definately floats just fine. I do not have the guard attachment for it. The black bottom doesn't move at all, it is on there tight. Elaine
