Title: Poem About The Fire Behind The Waterfall
wayne r - December 1, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
This is a poem that my brother wrote during his last visit. I only get to see him every couply years since he lives in NB about 1500 miles to the east. He wrote this poem in about 2hrs.
You have to know that he exagerates and no fish or cats were injured in the building of my pond. The poem is about this pic.
Its good to laugh at yourself once in awhile. Right Jb

A BIGGER POND
Great projects do not always come from the dreams of men come true
But by how they react when plans go wrong and life goes all askew.
And so with Wayne and his woundrous pond that fills his backyard lot
Came not from visions long held dear but by hitches in the plot.
It started with a little pool beside a giant rock
A waterfall , a couple plants and with goldfish it was stocked
And as a crowning kind of touch and to make his pool unique
He'd have a little fire where the falls became a creek.
So he modified a propane torch with it's tip below the water
A guage so he could set the flame at warm, or somewhat hotter
With the propane tank well hid from view he was ready for the show
And after dark when he lit it up, how his waterfall would glow.
They say hind-sight' twenty-twenty and I guess that may be true
And there's prob'ly things that Wayne knows now a sane man wouldn't do.
The propane line had too much flow for a project of this size.
The hole in the rock hinted the fact the thing was hollow inside.
When the jets come on the hollow filled up with deadly propane gas
And the hole became a cannon through which the force must pass.
Wayne missed the worst where he was perched ,high atop the rock
But the blast blew out a crater hole the size of a loading dock.
Wayne was left sitting in the hole right where the pool had been
Where the window had been on the side of the house a horse could walk right in.
Apart from the fish which they never found the casualties stood at one,
The neighbour's cat which sat and watched when the hole thing came undone.
And even then the flying cat, it's not likely they would find
If he'd not fetched up accross the yard on a stretched out fishing line.
With a gaping hole behind his house what else was there to do?
Get more rocks, a bigger liner and bid the cat adieu.
The hole in the wall has been replaced with an observation room,
Where Wayne can sit and observe the work of his recent sonic boom.
He even replaced the propane flame with controls from a barbeque
And found a rock with a solid core that would not collect the fumes.
He lights it up with a flame on the end of a broomstick he has found
And closes his eyes and stands well back with his feet on solid ground
The pond is now a wounderland of exotic plants and fish.
But give heed to what you pray for and be careful what you wish.
It's not the pond of which he dreamed but he dreams about it now
And wakes up startled in the night with sweat upon his brow.

Loved the poem. :D First I stared and totally enjoyed soaking in the pic...that is SO gorgeous. Then reading the poem it takes me back to earth and makes me remember all the stupid things that have happened at my pond. But I'm also glad nobody was around to write a poem about them. lol :P Is it actually true that you blew a hole in the house wall? :o

SadieMay . Bob blows (excuse the pun) things out of proportion to make a cute poem. What he calls a sonic boom, I call a episode. Very minor.

Love the poem! So, Wayne, what really happened when the pond "blew up?"

Well from the poem and pond I see that creative talent runs in your family Wayne! Would your family consider adopting one more adult person that lives in the US?? Maybe some of that could rub off. ;)
What I want to know is, there is a clear tube like feature to the right of the lighthouse, what is that?????? From my view it looks like a tube filled with water that has some fish in it?? What the heck is that Wayne? If you tell me will you have to kill me?? ;)
And how did you get the fire in the waterfall??
SadieMay - December 2, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
oh oh ..I think I remember the orfe in the jar one!! :o It's an upside bell-jar suspended from your trellis, right? That is soooo cool, wish our pond was more private, then I'd try something like that. :D

Are you talking about the clear tube thing?

Ok I read another thread and saw that the fire really is propane. Not really sure just how you accomplished it. It has me puzzled.
I better google. :)

Well what really happened, as I was telling Bob one evening while we were pondsitting. One time when I went to light it up I let the propane run a bit too long befor lighting it. Well when I reached out with the 6ft fire stick ,flames blew out 2ft each side of the falls. Have you ever seen frogs do synchronized diving? I have.
It was kind of like the movies when the hero comes diving out a window being chased by a ball of flames. This is what the frogs did ,but they are fine, they just decided not to sit by the waterfall anymore.
So Bob wrote that poem on the plane ride home the next day.
Oh. And there is no way a horse could have walked in the hole in the wall.LOL

Cute, tic. WE will discuse the adoption at the next family meeting. Does the hog come with you. :D
Clear tube. I call the fish condo.
At the risk of sounding like Robyn , checkout my pond showcase site.
Wayne's pond. And click on fish condo.
Any questions are welcomed.

I know that DH would let me go but the bike is another story! ;) I have reminded him that the bike can't cook! He said there is always take out and he can ride the bike to get it!!
I looked on the showcase at your pond. Thanks for the reminder. Pretty cool idea you had there! :) Now I know why JB says Waynes World. ;)
Johnnyboy - December 3, 2007 08:45 PM (GMT)
Very cool poem Wayne! and I can't see the picture; but I've seen them before....
Yes TIA, definitely a reason for calling it Waynes World! I was hoping someone would catch that.
And yes.... yes, yes, yes, Wayne; sometimes it's good to be able to laugh at yourself. But does sometimes require a little time to get past the crying before laughing begins.

Still trying to figure out that fire.
You take a propane tank with a long hose and run it up to the falls. Then take apart a bbq to get the burner out. Put the burner in the cave with the regulator. Connect the hose to the burner and light it...
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. READ WAYNES POEM FOR THE REASON WHY. :o
Johnnyboy - December 5, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Tia, the regulator stays with the tank, but you got the idea; burner at the end of long hose goes inside cave, sits behind waterfall.
If you don't have a BBQ grill to destroy, you can find plenty sizes of burners at the hardware store; Lowes, Home Depot, etc.. I'd be careful, some burners are big, and shapped like an "H". I don't think you want that.
tlc - December 5, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
JB, Yea I know the kind you mean. Seen them before at the hardware store. Those "H" ones would be too big huh?
Now I would have to build the pond to build the waterfall to have the cave to have the fire....

Wayne that site and fish condo thing is amazing! To be in your brain for a minute would be amazing that is just amazing

Wayne, I think I've seen the fish condos for sale now too! I can't find where at the moment; maybe one of my ponding supply magazines.
Are you reaping any benefits for that idea?
wayne r - December 7, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
With the checks coming in for the condo idea , according to my calculations, I have enough money to last me the rest of my life. Providing I die next Tusday.
