Title: Feeding Goldfish
Description: fruits and veggies

I was wondering what kind of fruits or vegetables I could feed to my goldfish without having to do a partial water change after every feeding. At the pet store they were feeding oranges to their goldfish, but they said that they had to do water changes when the orange was gone. I also have 1 pleco in the tank with my 3 goldfish. I am not really sure what you can feed goldfish and plecos, as I have only every fed them fish flakes and algae pellets. Let me know!!

Thanks,
Laura

Goldfish (and plecos) will eat many fruits and veggies but most make a mess! Veggies include cucumbers, zucchini, squash (all those split in half and deseeded), kale, peas (boiled and pealed), corn (cooked), romaine lettuce, and more. Fruits include watermelon (in a piece), grapes (in half), oranges, grapefruit, and more.

I only put cucumber in my tank with my 16" pleco and three small fantails. The goldfish sometimes nibble on it but it's mostly for my pleco. I attach it to a plastic holder on the bottom. The cucumber is about a 3" piece, in half, seeds removed with a grapefruit spoon. The cucumber doesn't make a big mess but, when I've fed zucchini and squash, pieces of it were all over which resulted in the water becoming fouled.

Whatever you add, remove any leftovers within 24 hours to reduce problems with it falling apart or growing bacteria or fungus on the veggies/fruits.
