Title: What Is Max Temperature For Breeding Goldfish

GOLDFISH TODD - December 23, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
What is the maximum temperature i can raise my goldfish tank to , to be safe and not to hot. Im trying to breed them in my 30 gallon tank and have 5 goldfish in it with 3 hand made fishmops and the temperaure right now is 75 degrees. I started at 62 and slowly brought it up to trigger spawning along with a light on a timer over tank. I feed them once a day. they are about 5 inches long roughly. Should i feed them more flakes of food??? than once a day?? What is maximum temperature i can raise it to??? Will feeding different food help the trigger to spawn???
thanks

Goldfish are really uncomfortable above 85 to 90 degrees F, mostly due to low oxygen levels. I would say to try to keep them under 80 degrees. Temperatures in the 70's are good for breeding goldfish.

I feed my aquarium fish twice a day. While the fish may spawn with just flake food, feeding live or frozen insects and worms will help prepare them to spawn (due to the added protein).

I think your tank is probably warm enough now. The fish are a bit crowded but that may make them more likely to spawn (but also more likely to eat eggs so you'd need to remove the eggs quickly). Your goldfish are still young or small but should be large enough to spawn.

Over how much time did you raise the temperature from 62 to 75 degrees F?

Thanks for your reply. I raised the temperature over a 2 week period. I put 5 goldfish in for breeding because i dont know which ones are males and females. its very hard to tell untill they start the chase and white spots appear on males gills. :D
