I AM NEW TO AQUARIUMS. I HAVE 1 FANCY GOLDFISH AND I HAD 1 BLACKMOOR FISH(IT DIED) ANYWAY THEY HAVE 2 FRY. I HAVE THE FRY IN A FRY PEN. I HAVE BEEN FEEDING THEM LIQUID FRY FOOD. THEY ARE ABOUT 1 IN AND 3/4 IN LONG. MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG DO THEY NEED TO BE KEPT SEPARATE FROM THE OTHER FISH? I AM NOT TRYING TO BE A BREEDER, IT JUST HAPPENED AND I WANT THE BEST FOR THE BABIES. THANKS

NF,
If your fry are 3/4" & 1" they shouldn't need to be separated any longer.

Are there any other fish besides the fancy GF & fry?
If they are the only three in there, and you don't have some big catfish or whatever, they'll get along just fine!

Sorry to hear the blackmoor died. The other parent will apreciate the company.

Also, if the fry are that big then you probably can feed them flake food.

A few months back I took three fry from my aquarium, about the same size as your fry, and introduced them in my pond. They get along great with the other goldfish and koi. The largest goldfish in my pond is a little over a foot long.

I think goldfish generally like to eat fry when they look like food ... usually when the fry are very young, poor swimmers.

PS your Caps Lock is on!

As Pool Guy asked, with what other fish (species and sizes) do you want to put the young goldfish? They sound large enough to be with goldfish at least half a foot long and with other non-predatory fish under a few inches in size. What do the fry look like? How did you raise them? I ask because it's not easy first saving fry from being eaten by the parents and then feeding them when they're very small. How big were the parent goldfish? How big is the tank?

Good luck with the little ones!
