Title: What Kind Of Plant Is This??

I don't think this is the right spot for this post so please move it Robyn if needed.

I have this plant in my yard [the one with spiked leaves] by the pond. I planted it last year [2007] and can't remember what it's called. I have been looking on the internet for the last week trying to figure it out. I searched for palms, yucca, spike leaves and on and on. I had the little stake that came with it from the nursery but it either blew away or like a dummy I threw it out.
Anyone know what this plants name is or what family it belongs to?

Have you seen the flowers? Most yucca types have bell shaped flowers.

It looks like a dracaena! I think that is what it is , I had LOTS of them at my old place.......where it was WARMER!!!! This is what I know them to look like! There a lot of different varieties but yours looks like a common one. There are some very pretty stipped ones too. They don't flower.

Yahoo!! I googled the name dracaena and yep it's in that family just like you said KK. I hadn't seen any flowers but wasn't sure b/c I thought maybe I hadn't had it long enough to flower. It is a relative of the yucca. Maybe a long lost relative ;) They are cool looking. Kind of a tropical look I think.

I wonder if you are supposed to tie them up for the winter. I thought the leaves might break if it snowed on them then froze.

Thanks. I have been looking for that for days and days...

I don't tie my yuccas..and they're stiffer leaves. My nieghbors had one yucca that she said had flowered once when she planted it, 30 years later I got it to flower again. When they died, my new neighbors threw it out...I went dumpster diving for the mama plant. It's long dead but I now have at least a dozen full grown babies. :D Wish they weren't so buggy when they flower.

I was concerned that it might not make it here b/c of all the rain that we get. I thought maybe it would get root rot! It's a little yellow looking at the tips right now. I hope it perks up. If I remember right the little nursery tag said that it could grow as high as 25 feet?? I can't remember for sure. I am going to read more about it tonight thanks to KK's pic. The whole beauty of the plant is the spike and I didn't want them to get broken off. I don't know how fast they would grow back and I need this plant for the calendar contest!!

Sadie how did you get them to reproduce by taking a cutting?
