Title: What Are These?

dudsy - January 12, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
Hello everyone, excellent board with plenty of helpful info.

I was feeding my pond fish today when i found this structure. Originally i thought it was bubbles but on closer inspection it seems to be some sort of egg cluster. Can anyone tell me what type of eggs they are? They don't seem to have any nucleus visible at the moment so its hard to say if they are eggs at all. I have googled fish, snail and frogs eggs and they all seem to have a nucleus and slightly different from my picture.

Any idea?

Also can anyone tell what type of plant it is?

The plant looks like from the Salvinia family. I googled different descriptions about the eggs, sorry, nothing from me.

I had those exact eggs or fungus appear in the grass in August after 3 days of rain. I checked them every day. Nothing ever sprouted from them, and after 3 weeks, they disappeared.
My dad said they were a fungus type thing, my brother in law said they were newt eggs.
So I do not know.

The plant looks like lemon bacopa. Here's a photo I found:

The "things" amongst the bacopa are probably not eggs (at least they are definitely not eggs from a reptile, amphibian, bird, fish, or snail; insect would be the only minute option). They are also not fungus. It almost looks like snake skin but I think they are plant seeds or material. They might be from a waterlily seed pod that broke open or some other plant material.

Yes i think it is a lemon bacopa as it has those little blue flowers like in the picture.

Those other things have disappeared so they will remain a mystery.

Im in NSW Australia. This plant has just thrived since i got it about 6 weeks ago. It has almost doubled in size and reckon its the centre piece of the pond.
Heres another pic of my pond. Small but nice. There are fish in there, just hiding
