Title: Aeration Question

If you have a pond that is forming ice on the surface should you "turn up" the aerator to help keep a hole open?
I have mine turned down fairly low now but the next day after I came home from my trip we had a small "film" of ice. We are supposed to have some colder weather here for a few days and I don't think I am in any danger of the pond freezing over like some of the ppl on the forum. I think I know the answer to this already but thought it was a good question.

Sure, you could just turn it up for the cold spell, as long as it didn't cause too much turbulance for your fishy's :o

Thanks KK! So far I think I will leave it alone. The cold snap shouldn't last much longer. I don't want those little fellers floating up to the top riding the "wave".

You have an air stone and the frog spitter? When you've got ice, I would just use the air stone to aerate the water and turn off the spitter (turn it back on once the ice is melted). You don't want the aeration so strong that the fish are bouncing all around but strong enough to move the water and keep a hole open.

I think I will leave the pump on and the spitter to. This will be a good experiment to see if it does freeze. I am not to worried about the pump as it is a cheapie anyhow. The only thing I worry about is if that would be to much turbulance for your fishy's like KK said. It doesn't seem to be.
