Title: Betta W/ Disease?
Description: cottony growths

hey!
just wondering if my fish will live.......i bought a betta last week, i think it was tues/wed, and i put him in a decent sized bowl with some rocks at the bottom. i noticed he was not eating the food i dropped in his bowl rather he was digging for them later..so he was pushed up against the rocks and glass searching for food...so i decided to take out the rocks, so that way maybe he would eat, and i noticed a kinda of cottony look to his fins. i phoned the place where i bought it, and described it as, it looked like a cotton ball had been placed on him, and some of it got stuck---it looks bad, but not really. i know it wasn't there when i bought it, so i guess it's progressed recently. i would really like to see a pic of what it looks like, so i can determine whether that is what it is or not....the girl told me to buy Betta Fix Remedy---i put my drops in and i'm supposed to treat for 7 days..so hopefully he'll live. i'm hoping it will go down, and i won't have to get a new one!

any suggestions?

It sounds like the little guy has a fungal infection. It might also be columnaris. If it's really fuzzy, it's probably fungus. I'm not familiar with "Betta Fix." Here are suggested medications for fungus that I have: MarOxy by Mardel and PimaFix by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. Using aquarium salt at a tablespoon per gallon also deters fungus and bacteria. Often, just keeping the tank clean will clear this problem up. It's often a result of poor water quality. Keeping fish in bowls makes it really hard to keep the water clean due to lack of filtration and volume.

Here are some few links of interest. Searching for "fish fungus" and "columaris" gave me hundreds of hits. These below are just the first ones I found that were relevant (I'm sure there are better sites out there):
