Title: To Move Fish Or Not To Move Fish
AnimalLove - February 15, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
I have a longfin danio in my 55 gallon and a longfin in my 20 gallon. I had a few at first, but the rest died after a electricity outage :( .
The 2 that are left are in 2 different takes because 1 I put into my 55 gallon to "recover" after the other bit its tail off. Anyway, I would like to put the one in the 20 gallon into the 55 gallon + get a few more, but heres the problem:
The longfin in the 20 gallon is with a goldfish that I suspect has turboculosous (sp?), its had a small(ish) wart on its body for the past 3 months (actually, since I got it, when I did get it I didn't know what the signs were of turb.) Should/could I still put move the danio (which isn't showing any signs) into the 55 gallon with other community fish?

I hope your fish don't have fish tuberculosis. A small lump might just be a cyst which are quite common on goldfish. Fish tuberculosis growths on goldfish look more like large acne boils full of cottage cheese. Anyway, if it is fish tuberculosis, it's very contagious. So, if you've been using the same aquarium equipment between the two tanks and/or moving fish between them, the other fish in the other tank have most likely already been exposed. They may never express symptoms, or they may. Fish tuberculosis is unpredictable as to when it might produce symptoms in a fish. With danios, they either get huge tumors that eventually rupture the body, or they become severely anorexic. It's hard to miss seeing fish tuberculosis active infections in danios.
Since danios are a schooling species, and your two tanks probably already share any potential bad bacteria or other pathogens, I suggest putting the two danios together, preferably in a tank without goldfish if possible. Large goldfish may eat or pester small danios.
If you get more danios, I suggest quarantining them. There's a larger risk of those new fish bringing in something bad than from moving that one danio you already have.
Good luck!

The danio definetly doesn't have it, so I'll be moving him tonight :D . On the goldfish it doesn't really look like a cottage cheesey, but just like a circular wart. He used to have these white bumpy dots on his tail, does that sound like any diseases you know of? All I know was it was not ich, it was bigger then ick and had more "volume."
Also, I kept the goldfish in the 55 gallon before I turned it tropical, then I moved the 2 into my 20 gallon until the spring. Would it be possible to share supplies between the two tanks ( I really don't have doubles of anything) since they were already in the 55 gallon?

The hard little random white dots are normally just benign cysts that goldfish are prone to getting. There's no cure but they're also no threat.
I'm not sure what you mean by the question of if it's possible to share supplies? I'm talking about things like buckets, hoses, etc. used to clean or service the tank that are used in one tank and then another.

Yes, I meant supplies like gravel vacuum, buckets, nets, etc...
