Title: Canadian Online Fish Store
Description: because I live in the sticks!
Route3drummer - February 19, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
I know there are a few Canadians on here, so I'll post this question:
Do any of you know of a good Canadian online store that sells both fish and/or plants? Can find lots of American ones, but (as usual) dick all in Canada. Not sure about the laws shipping fish across the border, but I know it's not easy to do with plants. Living in the middle of No-freaking Where, my entire selection is based on what's still alive at Wal Mart.....which is usually skinny, sick, and at best still has one eye. Poor things.
On a side note, I was in to that place getting something else the other day and decided to walk passed the fish section and take a look. Pathetic looking collection. There was one fish in one tank (a shubokun) that was missing BOTH eyes, and it just kept swimming around the crowded tank hitting the sides. I told the kid working there, but he didn't see a problem since it was still alive, someone may buy it. Stupid a**holes.
Anyway, would love to find an alternative as I despise having to support such treatment, and there are no other stores anywhere close.
Thanks!

Hey KK,
They look very good for pond hardware and such and I am sure I will be getting a few things I noticed there, but they don't actually sell fish or plants. :(

That web site KK found is the main one I found when I did a quick search (and in the past). I didn't post it for Derrick since he was looking for live plants and fish. Have you enquired at your local (or maybe not-so-local) fish/pond stores?
Route3drummer - February 20, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
no local stores in any way, shape or form I'm afraid. :(
I did eventually find a couple, so will check into them and also keep looking. Ahhh, life in the boonies..... ;)

That does look like a good one ... but 800 bucks?!? It better be good.
I wonder if they have a longer drain hose length available. I'v'e got a cheapo venturi type with an 8' hose ... I wish I would've bought the hose extension offered. It would come in handy to get the water I pump out a little further away from me & the pond.
I do like the debri net ... I'm going to incorporate that idea in my vacuum.
The dual chamber is another swell idea.

PG, I like the Shiro Utsuri or the Orenji Ogon.
I like the black and white the best, the orange would be my next pick.
Humm which one to buy.
They would go well with my hardy hardy hardy water lillies and the lettuce. ;) Never have to worry about the water temps with these guys or cleaning for that matter. No aerator issues either!
The best part is that they don't eat much! ;)

Hello all, i'm a new member and this is my first post. I have been reading a ton of post on this forum hoping to learn enough to not screw up my pond project for this spring. It's going to be two ponds actually with a short stream between them aprox 7000 gallons total. You seem to have a group of active members that enjoy helping each other without some of the personal attacks (which I have no tolerance for) that I have noticed on other forums I have visited. In fact this is the first forum I have joined so be patient with me. For instance I have no idea of how to post pictures. Well I decided today to join your group because when I saw the cost listed on the Pondovac 3 for $800.00 (and I hope I'm not too late Wayne R) it can be purchased on e-bay for less than $300.00 + shipping. I have bought one but not used it yet since it keeps on snowing here in Ohio but I have heard nothing but good reviews. Spring just can't get here soon enough. Tom

Frogman, Welcome to the board!
You have to register here (it's free):
http://photobucket.com/register.phpYou have to create an account then upload your pics from your pc. You can also resize them. You don't have to select to "Share" them.
To Resize them do this: After you upload, find and click on the pic. It should open in a larger window. Next click the Resize tab and select the size that you want to have in your post and say yes to the popup. After you are finished resizing click the Albums and Uploads tab and that will take you back to your main page. I think after you resize you can rename the pic someplace at the bottom of the screen. Tip: don't change the name of the file after you have posted the pic on the forum. If you do it will break the link and the pic will not show. Change the name before you post. You don't have to rename the pic, do it only if you want to.
To post the pic do this: Just click the image code on the bottom left (beneath the pic you want to post) one time with your left mouse button and that will copy it to your imaginary clipboard. Then when you are typing your post for the pics just right click one time and select paste. That will put the pic in your post.
Another tip for what it's worth, is not to upload to many pictures at one time to photobucket. Their servers are pretty busy with people like us uploading during the day so they tend to be slow sometimes. I would do a few at a time especially if you have dial-up.

Welcome fm3. Thanks for the tip but I still haven't got out of the phobia of ordering on line. I know I have to step into the 1990's .
Take lots of pics of that pond build. We all would love to see.
Robyn - February 27, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the group Tom! We are an eclectic bunch - men, women, young, old, Americans, Canadians, and others. We have one thing in common and that's our love for ponds! From that, we all show each other respect and share stories, tips, and humor. I created this forum and moderate it but it's really taken on a life of its own. I have really "lucked out" that I've gotten good people and not nasty ones like so many groups have.
I too want spring to come except I don't look forward to all the extra chores I don't have time to do - cleaning the ponds, repotting pond plants, weeding and mulching gardens, mowing, and so on. I actually like doing those things; it's more a matter of not having the time.
tlc - February 28, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
Thank you Robyn for the compliment! We are just glad that we all found each other here in our own little neck of the woods. :)
I agree with you. I like to do the outside chores. I love being outside. It's having the time to do it all is the problem. Seems the days are never long enough. <_<
WW, You are behind the times a little but that's why we like you!! :)
Glad you got your vac. Now Mrs. WW can have her dinner! :)
And fm3, we like pics, lots of pics please!
