Well this is my first post and will let you know I have always had at least one aquarium since I can remember so I am not new to having a freshwater aquarium, but I am glad I found this forum. Right now I have a 30gal community tank and a 55gal that has a 5" dinosaur eel and a 12" plecostomus. I just got rid of my oscar that was in the 55 and I am now trying to figure out what kind of new tank mates I can put in that will work well with the dinosaur eel.

I don't know much about them but there are a few threads in the forum about them from people who have had or do have them. Here is one old thread I found:

I have had a dinosaur eel for maybe around a year now. They grow pretty fast, mine has about tripled its size or more. It gets along with all my other fish, but I think once it might have eaten some of my smaller fish (ones that it could fit in its mouth) so don't keep it with any small fish. They grow to about 12" long, so a 55 gal might be a good size for it, maybe bigger if it looks like its running into a lot of things or is getting cramped. And make sure it has a dark cave or something tfor it to hide out in. They are mostly nocturnal, and eat with my ropefish when I feed them, which is beefheart. For the most part it is calm, unless something bumps into it, then it goes shooting across the tank. It comes to the surface for air every once and while, they have air-breathing lungs like ropes, so make sure there is space for it to get air. Over all they are very nice fish, if you have the space, and don't keep it with anything it can eat.
