Title: Pleco Species
Description: Anyone Know What This Is?

Cat Kitty - March 9, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
I just bought this new pleco and i'm not sure what species it is. These pics are kinda blurry, so i'll describe some of it. It is a more orangey-brown color, and has big black spots that cover all of its fins. At the tips of the fins, it gets lighter and is almost completely orange. All of its spots are perfect black circles. It has 2 spikes by it's nostrils, and it's eyes have 4 black bars coming out from the pupil. It's dorsal fin is big, and goes halfway down it's tail. I saw it and had to buy it because it was so neat looking. Its fins are almost feathery looking too.

There are a few hundred species of plecostomus and most look very similar. So, I'm not great at identifying them. Instead of my guessing (and probably wrong), I suggesting checking out this web page which has photos and information about almost all the pleco species. It has 731 species!

When you run your mouse over a name, a little photo comes up. I'm sure you can see it would take me a long time to go over all those!

Well that sure took less time than expected! It was right there on the top as the #10 most viewed. It's a Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps. Heres a good pic they had on the website:user posted image It's the cutest pleco I have ever seen :)

Glad you found him! He looks similar to your photos but it's hard to see those photos which is why I thought you'd find a match easier.

To me he looks more like a common pleco.
