Title: Dead Frogs
Description: finding floaters

Hello! I have a 200 gallon pond outdoors. It has a waterfall and many places for a frog to live happily. Plants in pots, different levels, and "shelves" to get in and out. We have 3 (brown)frogs which we watch daily. They all seem content. The water did not freeze this winter (N.C.) there are little bugs about. Also, 7 not too big goldfish. We have, on 2 different occasions, found a dead frog floating belly up. They do not appear to be maimed by anything. When I scooped the last one out today, he still appeared to be alive as his little legs moved back into position. But he was not. Any suggestions on what may be wrong here?

Do you have aeration or filtration in the pond? Frogs need oxygen just like fish. If the pond's not aerated, I suggest doing so. Sometimes predators or other animals injure frogs, and they can die without obvious problems. Also, frogs are prone to fungal infections which may not be obvious. They can also get septicemia (bacterial infections) that may cause their legs to look red. I've lost many frogs, mostly from predators, low oxygen during the winter, and maybe fungus. I hope no more frogs die.
