I own 3 sailfin mollys! 1 male 2 female. They are in a 20 gal with 5 tiger barbs 3 danios 2 minnows 3 river chub and a dwarf cichiled. (i spelled that wrong...) I know that it is over crowded i am setting up a 55 gallon tank in April and will move the mollys in to it.

But for now the are breeding like guppys! The first batch did not do well only 1 is alive but is doing well and eating. Is there anything I should do dif?

Congrats! I always love baby fish -they are so adorable. As for doing anything differently- just make sure water quality is good and there are lots of hiding places. Net breeders are good-but can be very stressfull.

If you want more babies, the best thing to do is to collect the wee ones when you first see them and put them in to their own tank. If they are too fast to catch with a small cup, try a net. Nets are best avoided with fry but molly fry are pretty big. If you don't want to set up another tank, you can put the babies in a breeder net. Otherwise, put in lots of cover like live floating plants and java moss so more babies might avoid being eaten. Molly fry are some of the biggest fry so usually some will survive when there are just mollies with them but your other fish may have more of a penchant for eating them.

My breeding page is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/breed.htm and has more on breeding fish and raising fry but is more geared towards egg-laid fry.

OK! Thank you for the info.

The one molly I have IS IN a net breeder. It eats and is very brave,(Mosey is its name.) Mosey comes right up to me and will take the food right in front of me!!

Thank you again Robyn!
