Well I was aquarium adventure today (my addiction) and well couldnt leave empty handed I got an iridescent shark/catfish and a African catfish. The African catfish is sooo pretty has the dorsal fin like a sail. All is going well in the tank so far. But the iridescent is going to require a bigger house later down the road. who would have thought I would like catfish so much so that now I have 4 and they are my favorite (in the aquarium) LOVE MY KOI outside. Who woulda thunk :huh:
I read that the iridescent is skidish but he seems real calm who knows what tomorrow brings

YUP! It's official!!!! Your a fish nut all right, lol. I like cat fish too. I have only had one in my life though and I accidentally pickled the poor guy (long story :-()
You better be careful or you are going to end up with a basement full of fish tanks, and they will have to get bigger and bigger and bigger, LOL. I am only pointing this out cause yesterday was "tank cleaning" day for me and I grumbled about it the WHOLE TIME!!! After the babies and the new koi go out to the pond I think maybe I will put some "cool" fish in the tanks again ;-)

I hate to be the one to ask, but someone has to....how do you ACCIDENTALLY pickle your pet cat fish? :o :P

Yeah, KK, you know you can't say something like that and not explain! Do you actually pickle stuff? My father grew up on a ranch. They pickled things and put them in the root basement (dirt hole under the porch). As far as accidental deaths go in this family, we always tell the story of my mother when she was about 20 something. She wanted to warm up a duckling so she put it in the oven. Oh, it was on low she says, too bad it was a GAS oven!

Good luck with your two new catfish C2! I love catfish too but mostly plecos and cories. I've never had a predatory catfish.

There's just something about the family that pickles it's pets that causes me concern! :D

my mom tried to catch one of our rabbits that got out of its outside playtime enclosure and was running for the tree line my mom, who I never saw run before or after that, made a mad dash jumped on the rabbit....luckly the rabbit lived but pooped alllll over her.

FINE...........I will tell the story, but it is AWFUL!! We had Jasper the catfish in our tank for quite awhile when the tank got ICH. Damn, I can't remember what kind of catfish he was, I will have to google him and repost! Everyone in the tank wasn't as bad off as poor Jasper. Now, this was back in the day before the internet (at my house anyhow ;-) so all I had was various aquarium books to look to for help. To the best of my knowledge, I thought that Jasper needed a salt dip. Since I really loved Jasper ALOT, I figured that the more I loved him, the more salt I should use. I really don't have to finish this story do I???????? I am sure everyone can get how he got pickled............please don't make me say how his little skin all cracked and he died a hideous death in a matter of minutes :unsure:
10 years later my husband still brings this up.....that's how BAD IT WAS!

I'm sorry for your old loss of the pictus catfish. They are more sensitive to salt than other fish. When you used it, were there other fish in the tank as well? Did they also die or did you only treat the one catfish? You must have put in a lot of salt. By sharing the mistakes we've all made, it helps prevent others from making them so that's the good side of the bad. My mother gets mad when I share what has gone wrong with my animals but I try to explain it's to educate others and hopefully lessen the mistakes of others and help some animals. I have so many animal regrets but the past can't be undone.

KK, guess the fun with you is over. <_< The pickling part is funny but I also have accidental deaths ( mice-heat stroke ) in my past. And they DO haunt you, at least they do me. :( Guess that's why my dogs ended up with an AC in their dog house.
