Title: Planing A Koi Pond
Description: Start at the beginning....

So I am going to start planning a much bigger pond than I currently have (about 4' x 8' x 2 1/2'). My current pond is fine for the gold fish, but seems a tad small for koi, at least once they start growing to any decent size.

The spot I have available for another pond is roughly 15' x 10' and could go about 4 feet deep. I could probably squeeze out a bit more space if I had to, maybe a couple feel in each direction so long as the DW didn't see me moving the ground markers!! ;) ;)

So would this be a big enough pond for a few koi? maybe 5 or 6 max? If it would be to constricting for them I would rather not do it at all than do it and them not have enough room in it. I know while small this would be fine, but when they start growing I want to make sure the pond is still big enough.

Any thoughts? :)

A pond that size should be plenty big for a few koi. Some experts say to have at least 1000 gallons for the first koi and 100+ gallons for each additional koi.
Good luck making your new pond!
