I sure hope you have a way to pump out the water before you bury the container. Ducks have a way of making a VERY foul mess of water in a VERY big hurry and it can cause quite a stink if the water is not changed frequently. BUT, the kids should really enjoy having the ducks. I remember have both chickens and ducks as a kid. Good luck.

I love duckies! There are a few "issues" though to consider.
1. Ducks make a lot of poo. That means frequent either total cleanings of the pond or a mega filter system.
2. Animals love to eat ducks. I suggest covering their pond from all directions. Hawks and foxes specifically if you have them will do what they can to get the ducks. One lady near me had her Mandarin ducks in a fully enclosed cage. Two foxes worked together. One scared the duck from one side, and the other ate his head off at the other side when he stuck it out. So, the holes in the enclosure should be smaller than the ducks' heads.
Once you have a duck pond set up, be sure to send some photos and information. I have a duck pond page with basically nothing on it.
Enjoy the babies! They grow up too fast! I've never had ducks (but wanted some) but have had chicks.

Congrats on the future duck pond! I would like to have a duckie or two around here but there are coyotes all over the place and we don't have anywhere to put up a pen. Seems the DH wanted to plant Christmas trees all over the place. <_<
Short story: We had ducks when we were kids. "Our" ducks were "show ducks" cause they had to have lights (heat lamps) on them when they were young. So they were special ducks. We also had "show chicks" for the same reason. :)
What can I say, we were kids and believed everything we were told

Also, don't forget that turtles, fish and wildlife are not compatible with ducks due to two things - the poo and the fact ducks devour plants, so the other animals can't hide or feed.
