Title: My Kitties

Ok, maybe it should be my kitty... but I did used to have a kitty named Cream which was allowed to go outside.. but he ran away last year, and I've been very sad about it, but I did get another kitty. Her name is Precious and she's a previous stray from the shelter. Sadly, a couple of months ago she snuck out, turns out she had been on our neighbours roof for a whole night (it was very cold) she got a cold and we brought her to the vet. The vet found out she had inflamed gums and a blood test revealed she had feline leukimia :( :(
So far she's relativley healthy (she's an indoor cat) and she's extremely adorable, she's a black and white medium hair, 1 year old lil furball.

I'm sorry about Cream. I've had 9 cats and lost 4 of them to old age illnesses. My kitten likes to sneak into the garage. I hope you can keep the little Precious inside and safe now. Feline leukemia is nasty but many cats live years without any symptoms so I hope she does well. I'm surprised the shelter didn't test Precious for leukemia (standard practice around here), or do you think she got it from going outside recently? Only one of our cats goes outside (she showed up a few years ago and won't use a litter pan so my parents insist she go outside; I worry about her due to cars, foxes, hawks, and so on).

The vet said she probably got it when she was a stray. We dont let her go outside and we're pretty sure she didn't get far when she snuck out...
I don't think our shelters do blood tests on strays since there are so many, they euthanize them within weeks :( I think they don't have the money but I'm not sure...

Cute kitty.

We used to have cats as well as our dogs. We lost two cats to feline leukemia and after the last one died, our vet suggested holding off on any more cats for several years, as the virus can hang around for quite a while and infect new animals that may be exposed. At least make sure that any new cats get vaccinated for it.
