Hi folks hope everyone is well :D Most of my fish are coming up for food now as the warmer weather creeps in, And as i posted earlier on in the year I was having problems with white growths on a few of the fish now it has spread quite rapid, out of 16 fish there are 10 with these growths, I have done some research and have come up with Saprolegnia Fungus which i believe to be quite common, But there are a lot of contradicting remedies and potions on the market, so if anyone has some info on this fungus and how to eradicate it successfully i would be grateful
I've not studied the different types of fish fungus. For natural fungal control, try pond salt and PimaFix by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. If those don't work, then you'll have to try one of the true fungal medications which are pretty strong. They can sometimes harm weak fish, scaleless fish, shrimp, snails, insects, frogs, etc.
Are the white growths fuzzy white? Have you done some water changes and added salt yet? That should help. How big is the pond?
I hope the fish improve soon!
Hi Robyn, The growths are fuzzy white and all different shapes and sizes, the pond is 500 gallons (UK) and i have checked the water over the winter and its fine, How much water should i change and how much salt should i add, Going away for a week today so just hope they are fine when i get back
You might change out 100 gallons for example. Add enough salt to give a concentration of 0.05% if you have plants in there. If you have no salt in there, then you want to add about two pounds (US pounds) of salt to get that amount. Only add more salt with water changes or once rain dilutes it. You can buy a salt test kit.
