Title: My Shubunkin Has Developed Bobbly Bits On Fr Fins
Description: is it normal?
fishyfishy - April 5, 2008 10:04 AM (GMT)
hi.
i hope someone can help.
i'm a bit worried about an older, predominantly white shubunkin (i think) in my pond.
it's gone a bit yellow'y over time.
but we just noticed it's front fins have orangey bobbly bits grown at their stem. oranda-style.
is this normal?
there are lots of other fish in there too - so i need to know it's not an infection of some sort.
thanks

Sometimes the white areas of goldfish become a little yellow, especially if they're eating foods high in carotenoids like algae. I've seen goldfish with little orange blobs at the bases of their fins. The growths are usually small, benign tumors made up of skin, fat, and/or fluid. Orandas have growths on the tops of their heads but not at the base of their fins normally.
If you can post a photo, I can tell you more. It doesn't sound like an infection but a picture will allow me to say it's okay with more assurance.
Good luck with your fish!

Yes, you can e-mail photos to me. My e-mail is help at fishpondinfo dot com which I wrote differently to reduce SPAM.
My boss calls me Fishy.
