Title: 5 Gallon Tank
Description: What to do with it?

Robyn - April 7, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
My last paradise fish died on Saturday in my 5 gallon tank. What should I do with the tank? It only has some floating fern, duckweed, trumpet snails, and midge larvae in it.

4 ideas....

1. Bumblebee gobies

2. Get a community tank with a few community livebearers (guppies, platies, mollies) and maybe some danios and african dwarf frogs (but only one or two of those!)

3. A species tank of pike livebearers. I have kept them and they are fun and exciting to look after, despite their predatory diet. It would be better to keep bumblebee shrimp in a smaller tank.

Five gallons is just great for a terrarium for :

1. a newt
2. a tomato frog
3. a toad
4. a spider or centipede
5. a mouse

OR
aquarium for Betta

Well Robyn, I vote you leave it empty but I know you won't, LOL!! I think to save some time you should put a betta in there. They are soooo low maintenance compared to your other options and PLUS......I feel so sorry for them and I am sure there is one at your local Walmart that needs a GOOD HOME!!!! Having said this, and just myself enjoying being down to 2 dogs, I went to the SPCA yesterday and am pretty sure I am going back tomorrow to bring another doggy home. Sometimes us animal lovers are happier being busy with our pets than getting to relax a few extra minutes a day in front of the t.v., although we love to complain about it. Good thing fish don't know how we really feel about cleaning their tanks!

Oooh I'd get a crayfish! Mine's a lot of fun. All those plants will eventually be eaten I imagine though.

I voted for a marine tank! A whole new world!!....isn't that a Disney song?

I have looked a bit at them, and some of the fish and coral are beautiful....but they appear to be A LOT of work! :o

Basically I want someone else to do it first so I can learn from their mistakes!!

I can't believe it! Yesterday afternoon my wife took my granddaughter shopping at a pet shop and my granddaughter thought grandpa needed a tomato frog! So, yesterday afternoon, I became the owner of a new tomato frog brought to me in, guess what, A 5 GALLON TANK!

Hey Meastro Loco, wasn't the tomato frog your idea? ;)

tlc - April 10, 2008 11:24 PM (GMT)
I said leave it empty for now so you can put your feet up at your outdoor pond with all that extra time that you will save. ;)

Route3drummer - April 11, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
Hush Tia! We can't have Robyn actually SITTING and RESTING in her spare time!! She has to get busy with a new project so she can teach the rest of us and save US some time! Your's is probably the best idea though. ;)

You could always fill it full of crushed ice, drop a six pack into it and forget about ponding and animals and forums and fools for a day and just have a Robyn day...but just one day!!!! :D

I voted to save the ten minutes.

Robyn, if you're looking for ways to save a bit of time here & there .... this could be another good candidate!

I'm going to tear the tank down tomorrow and disinfect it. I'll put the plants in one of my outdoor tub ponds (they won't last though). I am really tempted to get a nano reef tank though. Ten minutes a week isn't much; a reef tank would probably double or triple that though.

That's for the thought Route3dummer but I don't drink alcohol. I also don't relax! Even when I start watching TV, I have to eat, read, and/or tend to the cats at the same time. You should see me watching my soap opera, reading my mail, eating my dinner, and trying to keep my kitten from eating it all at the same time!

I'd like to change my vote ...

Robyn, go for the reef tank!!
:) ^_^ :) ^_^

... I want to see some pictures!

Go for it Robin, I was talking to a business associate and talking about ponds what else! And the conversation shifted from our ponds to his salt water tank Which he loves. Initially he said it was hard to get balanced but after that it's a breeze, 20 gallon tank. Of course the fish are much more expensive. Pretty sure come fall earily winter that's what is going in my 29 gallon tank that has sat empty for the last two years.
